A crypto CFD is a contract for difference on a cryptocurrency like Bitcoin, Ethereum, or Litecoin. Unlike buying spot crypto on an exchange, a crypto CFD lets you speculate on price movements without owning the underlying coin. You can go long (buy) or short (sell), use leverage, and trade through a broker on familiar platforms like MetaTrader 5. Leverage on crypto CFDs is typically lower than on forex, and margin requirements can change at short notice.
Bitcoin is trading at $100,000. You buy 0.1 lots of BTCUSD as a CFD, assuming a contract size of 1 BTC (check the instrument’s specifications). With 1:10 leverage this needs $1,000 of margin instead of $10,000. If Bitcoin rises to $102,000, you gain $200; if it falls to $98,000, you lose $200. Prices in this example are illustrative.
