High-impact releases for USD, JPY over the next 7 days, in server time (GMT+3). Dots on the 1D and 5D charts mark recent releases.
USD/JPY is the second most traded currency pair in the world, representing the exchange rate between the US dollar and the Japanese yen. The yen is traditionally considered a safe-haven currency — it tends to strengthen during periods of global risk aversion and weaken when risk appetite returns.
The pair is strongly influenced by the interest rate differential between the US Federal Reserve and the Bank of Japan (BoJ). Japan's historically low interest rates have made USD/JPY a popular instrument for carry trades, where traders borrow in low-yielding yen to invest in higher-yielding assets.
At GCC Brokers, USD/JPY is traded with automatic execution and no manual intervention. The pair is most active during the Asian session (00:00–08:00 GMT) and the London–New York overlap. Its clean technical trends and sensitivity to macro events make it a favourite among both fundamental and technical traders.
USD/JPY trades 24 hours a day, five days a week. It is usually most active during the Tokyo session and the London–New York overlap. The exact hours, in server time, are in the specifications above.
A carry trade involves borrowing in a low-interest-rate currency (JPY) and investing in a higher-yielding currency (USD). Traders profit from the interest rate differential as long as the exchange rate remains stable or moves in their favour.
Spreads are variable and depend on market conditions and your account. Standard and Pro have no commission, and Pro has tighter spreads; Zero has raw spreads plus a commission. The live spread is shown on this page.
Japan is the world's largest net creditor nation. During global uncertainty, Japanese investors tend to repatriate overseas assets back into yen, increasing demand. This safe-haven flow strengthens the yen during risk-off events.
Key drivers include Federal Reserve and Bank of Japan policy decisions, US-Japan interest rate differentials, US employment and inflation data, Japanese economic indicators, and global risk sentiment shifts.
