Your balance is your account’s cash value from closed trades, deposits, withdrawals, commissions and swaps. It changes only when a position closes or a cash movement is booked. Equity, by contrast, also includes the floating profit or loss on open positions.
You deposit $5,000 and close a trade with a $200 profit. Your balance is $5,200. If you also have an open trade showing a $100 loss, your equity is $5,100 while your balance stays at $5,200.
